12.30.99 Black

July 27, 2010 in Music by atari

This will mark the first in a series of mini-releases developed by myself. As many of you know, 12.30.99 was released on December 30th, 2009 as a prequel to the 12.31.99 album and featured production by Blockhead, Nick Wiz, Moka Only, Krohme, Cadence and more. This condensed project features tracks off of that release as well as bonus songs to round out the release.

Below is the Stay Alert RMX featuring Little Indian, who made waves in 1995 with his One Little Indian single that featured remixes by Buckwild and the late great J. Dilla. The remix is produced by Krohme.

You can download the EP here http://iamsubstance.com/bloog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/atari_blitzkrieg-12_30_99_black.zip

Tracklisting:

1. A Message From Spock

4. Flies & Vermin
5. Naw Man This Is It

1989 Remix

July 14, 2010 in Music by atari

I actually knocked out this remix before the release of 12.31.99 but completely forgot about it until now. This track was sort of buried within the mix of guest appearances and production which can happen, eh, I forgot about it myself.

One of the more personal songs I’ve recorded, people tend to confuse the track title with the year I was born, those people obviously aren’t listening to the lyrics. While my age isn’t mentioned initially in the song, I was 9 in 1989 and yes we did live in our car for a couple of days.

With the remix itself, I didn’t want it to sound like 1989, I love homages to musical time periods but I wanted this to have a specific vibe, but if you listen closely you can hear subtle references.

Anyway, have a listen,

Verbal Prozac (Hydroponic Phunk)

June 24, 2010 in Music by atari

As I begin work on the Vect R. Man Chronicles EP, I figured I drop a track I remixed that i’ll include on it. This song is sort of an orphan, the original may go on ABC but i’m not sure, either way, this version will go on TVRMC.

Let me back track for a second, TVRMC will utilize samples from the Vectorman video game score, so what you’re hearing in this is pulled from the game in some form or fashion. I’m still getting the production together, but expect the finished product by mid-July (hopefully).

Enjoy!

The Refrain 2 Maintain

June 8, 2010 in Music by atari

Near the end of 2006, I began work on what I had planned on being my first album, The Refrain 2 Maintain. The lead single, Rokkonorrottenhell was circulating and the b-side, The Forsaken 2.0 with Royce Da 5’9 and Krohme was doing even better. I began work on the material with a loose concept behind it that I was never able to pull together. I started work on some other projects and it fell by the wayside. I recently went back into the vaults and began reworking the songs, for some reason, I would only write a single verse and stop, so I’ve had to rewrite songs.

This is a ruff mix of a few of them, some you’ve heard, some you haven’t.

UGK – One Day (Atari Blitzkrieg’s Beautiful Dreamer Remix)

June 1, 2010 in Music by atari

Sometimes I feel like going back through the vaults to remix older tracks for no real reason at all. I think I have this fascination with combining one style with another and analyzing the results, which brings us to this remix. Most will probably write off UGK based on a single they may have heard or just their own perception of artists based out of Texas, one of the reasons why I choose this track specifically to remix. The lyrics have substance and I think it meshes well with the remix, I dunno, it’s just me getting distracted when I should be wrapping up albums.

Enjoy,

Morgan Freeman Redux

May 18, 2010 in Music by atari

Today we have Morgan Freeman, the redux. For some of you, this was the track that got us acquainted, probably because it also features Wildchild & Breez Evahflowin. You’ll notice that I tend to do 1 or 2 posse cuts per release, I just like that vibe that it carries plus I think it’s always good to introduce additional vocals into an album to break it up at times.

Anyway, the original version of this track was on a single that I released on CD and vinyl in 2008, with cover art by my wife, who I’ll have do the art for the full album, Fantastic Saturday Celebrity Hour. I’ve reworked the production for all of the tracks with Krohme since I felt it didn’t quite fit the vibe that I was going for, the soul samples removed and replaced with differentness.

The full project is nearly finished, I let everyone hear Lucy Liu awhile back, Scarlett Johansson (sans movie samples) is slated to go into another film, so once I feel confident in the vibe, i’ll get it out.

Until then, enjoy Morgan Freeman.
